- September 10 - the first meeting was held in the home of Mr.
Burton J. Hopis. This meeting was to begin the planning of planting a
Baptist church on Sunset Road in Charlotte, North Carolina
- Rev. Bobby Johnson called to serve as first pastor
- Purchased two acres of land from fronting Sunset Road and
Kinghurst Drive at $125.00 per acre

- Rev. M. W. Shaw called to serve as Pastor
- October 21 - Occupied an uncompleted, one-room building
erected by members and friends in the community
- Enrollment was: Sunday School 60; Training Union 24, Church
membership 31

1952 |
- Rev. L. F. Alderman called to serve as Pastor
- September 27 - The church was formally organized
|

1953 |
- Rev. J. T. Baker called to serve as Pastor
- Three new class rooms were added to the none room sanctuary
- All indebtedness was liquidated and the ot was burned

1954 |
- The church voted to revert to Mission status in order to
receive sponsorship
- May 18 - Willmint Baptist Church assumed sponsorship of
Sunset Road Baptist Church, a relationship which continued until
November 2, 1955

1956 |
- Rev. Howard W. Maudlin called to serve as Pastor
- January 22 - St. John's Baptist Church assumed sponsorship
of Sunset Road Baptist Church

1958 |
- With financial aid from St. John's Baptist Church and the
Baptist Association, an educational unit of six rooms was erected with
the help of the men of the church
|

1960 |
- Rev. Marion Lineberger called to serve as first full-time
Pastor allowing for an expanded Ministry
- Parsonage was purchased
- Mecklenburg Baptist Association purchased row adjoining lots
for the church
- Dr. E.D. Moore gave the Church a corner lot

1961 |
- A four-room dwelling was moved to the property and renovated
for educational and recreational use, this being financed by St. John's
Baptist Church and work done by the men of the Church
|

1962 |
- Missionary organizations for children and youth were begun
- A tract of land (1.92 acres) adjoining the church was
purchased
|
|
1963 |
- The children's building was erected at a cost of
approximately $56,000, including furniture
- St. John's Baptist Church gave the Church a gift of $25,000
toward the cost of the new building

1964 |
- Rev. Marion Lineberger resigned as Past to become a
Missionary with the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist
Convention serving in Argentina
- Dr. B.E. Morris called to serve as interim Pastor

1965 |
- Rev. James A. Lewis called to serve as Pastor
|
|
1966 |
- With financial help from Mecklenburg Baptist Association,
the Church purchased approximately 4.6 acres of land adjoining already
owned property, which made the total land holding 10 acres

- The first deacons were ordained and the rotation system
began

- June 1 - Sunset Road Baptist Church organized into an
autonomous body

- July 12 - Ground breaking ceremony for new Sanctuary
(Approximate cost $143,000)

- Mr. Terry Clopton called to serve as Music Director

- Parking lot enlarged and improved

|

- Rev. Warren Mallard called to serve as interim Pastor
- Constitution and By-Laws adopted and second Sunday in
September declared as Constitution Day
- Rev. Cecil Ballard called to serve as Pastor

- Mr. Richard Howie called to serve as part-time minister of
Music
- 1975-1980, Sunset Road Baptist Church listed among the 700
fastest growing churches in the Southern Baptist Convention
- The original white frame structure was sold to the Masons
and removed from the premises

- Mr. Ron Honey cut called to serve as Music Director

- Rev. Marion R. Eps called to serve as Associate Minister of
Music and Education

- The Church voted to build the Family Life Center at a cost
of $285,000
- September 13 - ground breaking ceremony and Bond sales
kickoff for the Family Life Center
